8. Use the TV guide, catch-up, and advanced EPG

Browse programs, create reminders, and fix an empty or incorrectly matched guide.

01

8.1 How do I open the guide and choose its layout?

  1. 01Open the main menu, then select TV.
  2. 02Wait for the groups, channels, and programs to load.
  3. 03Choose the timeline guide to browse past or future programs.
  4. 04Choose the channel grid for quick access to live TV.
  • The timeline guide displays one row per channel and lets you move through time.
  • The grid emphasizes the current program, its logo, and its progress.

03

8.3 How do I start a channel in preview or full screen?

  1. 01Move the focus to the current program.
  2. 02Press OK once to start the channel in the preview.
  3. 03Press OK again on the same item to switch to full screen.
  4. 04From full screen, use Back to return to the current program in the guide.
A future program cannot be played

Open its actions to view details, create a reminder, or schedule a recording when those features are available.

04

8.4 How do I use catch-up or restart the current program?

Catch-up depends entirely on the archives and schedules supplied by the source. A channel may work live without providing catch-up.

  1. 01For a past program, return to its date, then move the focus to its block.
  2. 02Check that the channel displays a catch-up indicator.
  3. 03Press OK or open the actions menu with a long press, then choose catch-up.
  4. 04For the current program, open the controls while the player is full screen and choose Restart when the action is offered.
  5. 05Use the "LIVE" button in the player to leave catch-up and return to the current stream.

05

8.5 Which actions are available for a channel or program?

Long-press OK. WAVEO displays only the actions compatible with the program, account, and version in use. Available actions include:

  • Watch live TV, replay a program, or open an external player.
  • Display program details.
  • Add the channel to or remove it from favorites and, if it appears in history, remove it from there.
  • Add the channel to or remove it from a custom TV group.
  • Create a reminder or recording when the schedule and prerequisites allow it.
  • Rename, hide, or reorder the channel when the required access is active.
  • Manually assign an EPG entry to the channel.

06

8.6 How do I create and receive a reminder?

  1. 01Move the focus to a future program.
  2. 02Long-press it, then choose Set reminder.
  3. 03Allow notifications and exact alarms if Android asks.
  4. 04Find your reminders in My Wave TV > Reminders.
  5. 05When the notification appears, choose Watch, Snooze, or Ignore, depending on the displayed actions.
Android restrictions may delay a reminder

Check the device time and notification permissions. The playlist, channel, and program must still exist at the scheduled time.

07

8.7 How do I add and organize advanced EPG sources?

  1. 01Open Settings > Playlists & update > Manage playlists.
  2. 02Open the relevant playlist, choose Edit, then EPG sources.
  3. 03Choose Add source, then enter the XMLTV URL directly or by QR code when offered.
  4. 04Add a name that lets you recognize the source.
  5. 05Enable the useful sources and place the most reliable one first in the priority order.
  6. 06Save, then start an EPG update.
Source priority

You can configure up to five EPG sources per playlist. WAVEO tries higher-priority sources first, then uses the others to complete channels that are not covered.

Disabling a source keeps its configuration; deleting it removes it.

08

8.8 How do I assign EPG data to a channel or group?

  1. 01In the guide, move the focus to the channel without the correct program data.
  2. 02Long-press it, then choose manual EPG assignment.
  3. 03Choose the source to search if WAVEO asks you to.
  4. 04Search for the channel name or ID.
  5. 05Compare the country, edition, and proposed programs.
  6. 06Select the correct match, then save.
  7. 07Return to the guide and check the result; this may take a few seconds.

To process several channels, then use automatic assignment for a group.

  1. 01Open EPG assignment, then the automatic-assignment tab or action.
  2. 02Choose a TV group and start the analysis.
  3. 03Review the matches and their confidence levels.
  4. 04Deselect uncertain suggestions, then apply only the retained matches.
Check automatic assignments

The confidence level is an aid, not a guarantee. Before applying suggestions to an entire group, remove uncertain matches to avoid mixing countries or editions.

09

8.9 The guide is empty, incomplete, or offset

  • Every channel is empty: check the Internet connection and that an EPG source is present and enabled, then start an update.
  • Some channels are empty: check their IDs and use manual assignment.
  • Duplicate programs: look for a duplicated URL, incorrect priority, or incorrect manual assignment.
  • The entire guide is offset: first correct the device's date, time, and time zone, then adjust the EPG offset.
  • The guide is correct but catch-up starts too early or too late: separately adjust the catch-up offset in Preferences.
  • The offset varies between channels: the issue probably comes from the source data rather than a global setting.

10

8.10 Catch-up or reminders do not work

  1. 01First test the channel's live stream.
  2. 02Check the catch-up indicator and try another program that is still within the archive period.
  3. 03Check the device time and the EPG and catch-up offsets.
  4. 04For a reminder, check notifications, alarms, and background restrictions.
  5. 05Refresh the EPG if the program's schedule has changed.
  6. 06If several devices fail on the same archive, contact the source provider.
